The Artist…

Eyob Mergia
My name is Eyob Mergia. I am an Ethiopian artist who moved to the United States after graduating from the Ethiopian Fine Arts Institute in 1997. As a highly creative person, I am always pursuing new ways to express myself while exploring new techniques. I am currently studying film and literature, which will add a new dimension to my artwork.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be an artist. My journey has opened my eyes, allowing me to see the deeper existence of elements and capture moments of expression at their inception. My sources of inspiration are vast—daily life, music, books, films, conversations, nature, travel, science, spirituality, and culture. My work is an ongoing experiment with ideas, conveyed through the language of art. This exploration enables me to work with a wide range of traditional and non-traditional media in mainstream fine arts.
To me, art serves as a spiritual guide, manifesting my vision and allowing me to express my inner voice. At times, I incorporate mathematical formulas and abstract concepts into my art, pushing the boundaries of creativity. I am deeply inspired by monumental sculptures, design, archaeology, literature, music, and history. My artistic journey is one of continuous discovery—of my heritage, the world, and myself.
